Wilfried Zaha has been in absolutely scintillating form for Crystal Palace this season, as the video attached below proves perfectly.
The Eagles’ academy man has often been labelled as someone who lacks “end product” in the press and broadcast media but this term, his numerous doubters have been remarkably quiet for the most part.
Always known as a winger who is fond of taking on full-backs with a trick or three, the last seven months have seen him up his game dramatically at key moments, having notched five goal and six assists in the Premier League, all of which have been pulled off with a touch of genuine panache by the still young Ivory Coast star.
In truth, when you examine his lightning quick strike at The Riverside, instinctively brilliant turn and finish away at Swansea, the hammer-blow against Hull and the sublime overhead kick at home to the aforementioned Swans, it’s almost impossible to understand quite why he isn’t being showered with endless praise from the talking heads who litter TV studios across the land each weekend.
Yesterday’s goal was characteristically eye-catching from Zaha, chesting down Yohan Cabaye’s beautifully weighted cross-field ball before lashing a powerful low drive across the face of Ben Foster’s goal and into the bottom right-hand corner of the net. That, coupled with the six assists he’s notched since August will have the whole of the Premier League sitting up to take notice, not that they should have been ignoring the winger until now.
Put quite simply, I defy even Zaha’s most vocal detractors to watch the above video in its entirety and still maintain a stance of scepticism over his status as one of the top flight’s most exciting attacking talents. The lad is an absolute superstar.
