Crystal Palace secured an absolutely massive three points away to Bournemouth last night, with the final goal of the night sparking wild scenes of celebration.
Having taken the lead early in the second half thanks for a well controlled low finish from Scott Dann, Palace dug in manfully to cling onto what would be their first away Premier League clean sheet in 13 months, throwing their bodies on the line in a manner which hasn’t been seen from the boys in red and blue for quite some time.
Admittedly, the lads rode their luck once or twice throughout the evening but after more than a year of poor results on the road, it felt as though we were owed a rub of the green over the course of 90 minutes.
With the fourth official having indicated a minimum of four minutes additional time, the vast majority of Palace fans were pleading with Andros Townsend to take the ball to the corner when he snatched it away from the Bournemouth defender late on but to his credit, he beat his man before dinking a perfect ball into Benteke’s path, allowing the big man to net the all important second goal of the night.
Whilst the magnitude of the header will need little explaining to the vast majority of the Palace faithful, the above video offers the perfect insight into the outpouring of sheer joy expressed by the sold out away end down in Dorset. It’s been a hell of a long time coming but as we all know, an adundance of lows only serve to make the highs feel sweeter.
Let’s hope last night’s victory acts as a turning point for our season, alongside a number of new Deadline Day arrivals. There’s certainly a feelgood factor around the club again.
