Reports across Europe are suggesting that Crystal Palace are making a late push to sign Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho on a permanent basis ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline.
Having spoken regularly about the need for defensive reinforcements throughout January, it should come as little surprise to see Sam Allardyce pushing hard for a player of Sakho’s status, but as the report above explains, any move for the Reds man is complicated slightly by his own personal perception of a switch to SE25.
It goes without saying that the French international would be a welcome addition to the Palace back line, given the lack of strength in depth currently at Big Sam’s disposal but with fees reaching astronomical levels of Deadline Day, questions will inevitably be raised over the lucrative nature of the proposed transfer.
Obviously, if Palace are to turn around their dismal form and survive for another year, the board will have to roll the dice to some extent but with our wage bill already at the upper end of what we can afford whilst staying within FFP regulations, any long-term contract offered to Sakho could have serious ramifications further down the line.
Clearly, if what is said in the article attached above is true, Sakho himself isn’t 100% sold on a move just yet but in the pressure-cooker atmosphere of Deadline Day, things tend to change at breakneck speed.
