He’s been out of action for a little under three months but it looks as though French international goalkeeper Steve Mandanda is nearing a return to action at Crystal Palace.
The former Marseille stopper has been missing for the Eagles since early November, with his last appearance coming in our heartbreaking late defeat away to Burnley. Since then, Palace have lost manager Alan Pardew, picking up just five points from 11 Premier League games; a run which finally saw us drop into the dreaded relegation zone last weekend thanks to Swansea’s win at Anfield.
Whilst Mandanda may not have been playing out of his skin during the early months of his stay in SE25, the results gained by the team were undoubtedly more positive. Indeed, his Premier League replacement has come in for a large amount of criticism since stepping into his shoes with many supporters calling for club legend Julian Speroni to be given the nod over the Welsh international in Steve’s absence.
Given the nature of Mandanda’s injury (he damaged his knee badly) it’s almost impossible for us as supporters to speculate about a possible return date but the club’s media team will be well aware of the message they are sending by revealing a picture like the one above via a platform such as Twitter.
I doubt we will see the big man between the sticks for the visit of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to Selhurst Park tomorrow but I would wager we won’t be waiting that much longer for a glimpse of him back in a Palace strip.
