With more money than ever before sloshing around in the coffers of Premier League clubs, it’s easy to lose track of who tops the “money list” from year to year.
Whilst of course, Manchester City’s Middle Eastern owners comfortably sit alone at the top of the table, the differing levels of financial backing available to the clubs that compete within the English top flight makes for rather interesting reading, even if you already felt as though you had a pretty good handle on the financial clout of Palace’s direct competitors.
Having initially been taken over by Steve Parish and three other primary directors in the summer of 2010, most if not all Eagles fans are well aware of the recent decision to bring American billionaire duo Josh Harris and David Blitzer into the Selhurst Park boardroom; a move which has unquestionably provided a startling boost to the money now available to Alan Pardew and his coaching staff in their never-ending pursuit of players who can improve the group already in place in SE25.
Admittedly, the vast sums of cash being pumped into all 20 of the Premier League clubs each season as a direct consequence of astronomical TV contracts somewhat nullifies the need for a deep-pocketed owner in 2016 but even so, football fans across the nation are notoriously nosy when it comes to the financial side of the professional game.
From our own perspective, the relatively recent arrival of the aforementioned American pair already appears to have pushed the planned structural improvements to Selhurst Park on at a pace previously thought of as impossible, allowing Steve Parish to realistically talk of turning the pipe dreams he’s had since first taking over the reins in South London into a tangible reality.
