Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke has certainly hit the ground running at Selhurst Park, with the new lease of life he’s enjoying in red and blue prompting him to open up about the gripes he had under Jurgen Klopp’s guidance.
After shooting to fame as the physically imposing battering ram of Aston Villa’s forward line during his first few seasons in the U.K., Benteke earned what many felt was a dream move to Liverpool during the summer of 2015 but having been signed by the soon to be sacked Brendan Rodgers, Christian quickly found himself cast aside by new coach Jurgen Klopp.
Whilst Klopp wasn’t blind to the specific talents that the striker had at his disposal, the former Dortmund boss’ specific and sweeping plans to reshape the faltering Reds never did appear to accommodate a player of Benteke’s stature, leaving the club with the somewhat awkward task of removing him from their wage bill without accepting a cut price offer for his services.
Luckily for both Palace and Benteke himself, all of the early signs seem to suggest that his switch to South London will be a roaring success in the long-term, thanks in no small part to the huge levels of trust that Alan Pardew and his players are placing in him to provide goals on a regular basis.
It is with that sentiment in mind that Benteke’s comments attached above are likely to strike a chord or two with the Liverpool coaching staff, if they do indeed get around to reading them in the coming days.
Whilst Christian never strays far from the realm of constructive criticism, it is clear to see that there were a fair few issues nagging away at him from the moment Klopp took residence in the Anfield dugout, with the time that has passed since his departure prompting a commendable degree of candour in his words.
On the face of things, it was a big money transfer that suited every invested party down to the ground and now, thanks to the man at the centre of the deal itself, we have a degree of clarity over the reasons behind his general upturn in form.
