VIDEO: “Highlights” From Palace’s Loss At Saints – If You Dare To Watch

I fully understand if you would rather not but attached below, is a link to just under four minutes of “highlights” from last night’s 2-0 EFL Cup defeat against Southampton at St Mary’s.

This video offers a full breakdown of Palace’s struggles at Southampton. Some of the defending is truly woeful.

Whilst plenty of you would rather consign the entire night to some deep dark corner of your brain and never think of it again, there are bound to be a few hardy souls who feel duty bound to struggle their way through the highlights package, in the hope of it offering a sense of closure on a game that gave us almost no cause for even the slightest hint of optimism.

Fresh from a thoroughly deserved 4-1 triumph over Stoke City a matter of days before, Alan Pardew shuffled his pack dramatically ahead of last night’s clash, with a raft of changes including the reintroduction of Yohan Cabaye to the starting XI after seeing him recover from an injury he had picked up on international duty.

As a direct consequence, our general play looked disjointed from the moment the game began, no doubt hindered by the absence of Joe Ledley and James McArthur in the centre of midfield, both of whom had restricted the Potters so expertly in front of the Selhurst Park faithful the previous weekend. Whilst Wilfried Zaha’s presence on the flank hinted at the potential for an attacking threat, Scott Dann’s 19th minute exit thanks to a hamstring issue placed a cloud over the evening before Charlie Austin had even put the Saints in front.

By the time Jake Hesketh fired the hosts into a 2-0 lead on 63 minutes, the game was all but over as a contest, prompting supporters and players alike to count down the moments until the final whistle sounded.

With Souare, Dann, Damo and Tomkins all potentially out injured it will be interesting to see who starts in defence against Sunderland. Kelly has slotted in at CB in the past and has the height/technical ability to fit our new style but that means Fryers is the only LB.

Also who else can play CB? Would it be Ledley or Flamini out of position or a youngster like Wynter, Woods, Phillips or O’Dwyer, who i think is injured.

It’s interesting that Croll/Inniss haven’t been recalled. What is Claude Davis up to these days? Antony Gardner?…

Ryan Inniss’ court case probably hasn’t helped him.

      I would go:

      Ward–Tomkins–Damo–Kelly

I think all four of those are fit.

Yeah Inniss seems to be throwing away some promising talent. Shame.

I would have Wynter on the bench over Fryers. Looked much better in pre-season games.
