Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare was supposedly involved in a serious car accident on the M4 motorway over the weekend just gone.
The left-back wasn’t involved in Palace’s match-day squad from the trip to The Riverside Stadium on Saturday, causing many supporters to question the reason for his absence, but at this admittedly early stage of a constantly developing story, the car crash isn’t believed to be linked to the selection of Martin Kelly in Pape’s place.
Whilst many will no doubt be fretting over the dilemma this news will give Alan Pardew from week to week, the general wellbeing of Souare should be at the forefront of everyone’s minds ahead of any speculation over our selection headache on the left-hand side of the back four.
I’m sure I wasn’t the only one whose stomach turned when I saw the news and associated photographic evidence of what looks to have been s genuinely horrific accident involving Pape. It may sound a tad cliched but news such as this really does serve to put the importance so many of place upon football into perspective.
For the time-being let’s hope we hear some good news regarding his general state in the not too distant future.
He’s in everyone’s thoughts.
