Crystal Palace midfielder Yannick Bolasie has given his seal of approval to any deal which sees Christian Benteke joining the club in the coming days.
Speaking immediately after the team’s 3-2 friendly triumph over AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday night, the DR Congo international wasn’t afraid to address the rumours over moves for the specific trio directly, giving a ringing endorsement of both Benteke and Berahino separately.
After hearing the news of Fraizer Campbell’s recent injury, we currently only have one first-team striker fit and ready to play in Connor Wickham. Of course, there are the likes of Wednesday night’s winning goalscorer Freddie Ladapo and academy graduate Sullay Kaikai bubbling away under the surface, but with just two weeks to go until the new Premier League season kicks off, it stands to reason that we will be in the market for a high-profile striker to fill the boots of recently departed frontman Dwight Gayle.
As any regular watcher of Palace last season will know, a regular source of goals proved extremely hard to come by, with the aforementioned Gayle topping the Palace scoring charts last season after amassing a modest total of just seven. Although we have brought in Andros Townsend to add a degree of cutting edge in the final third, there should be no doubt as to the glaring need for attacking reinforcements in the coming days.
In truth, Bolasie has every right to be excited about the prospect of Christian Benteke pulling on a red and blue shirt, given his supreme aerial ability. Paired with the trickery and guile offered by Yannick, Zaha and Townsend on the flanks, it should be a match made in heaven from the first moment they play together but as the last few weeks have shown, getting a deal finalised is far from a straightforward process.
It’s rare to see a player speak so openly about one of their club’s specific transfer targets publicly, let alone three at once, but in many ways, Yannick Bolasie is far from your average footballer.
