If you didn’t manage to catch Crystal Palace’s 2-0 win over FC Cincinnati last night, you can now watch the entire broadcast again from start to finish via the link attached below.
On a night which saw the biggest ever recorded crowd for a “soccer” game in the state of Ohio, the USL’s latest expansion team FC Cincinnati welcomed Alan Pardew and his Crystal Palace players to the Nippert Stadium for a friendly which will live long in the memory of all the local supporters in attendance.
Despite the hosts still being in the midst of their first ever season, they put up a remarkably good show against a Palace side who were playing in their second pre-season fixture of the summer. Having started extremely brightly, Cincinnati found themselves behind in the eighth minute following a thunderous 25-yard strike from Eagles’ midfielder Jordon Mutch, but they didn’t let it dampen their collective enthusiasm for the task at hand.
Having completed a competitive opening 45 minutes, the interval brought a bevy of changes for both teams, including the introduction of Palace’s record-breaking new signing Andros Townsend, who balanced the threat offered by Wilfried Zaha beautifully on the opposite wing.
The pair were causing Cincinnati all manner of problems in the opening stages of the second period, and saw their hard work pay off midway through the half when Zaha controlled a cross from the former Newcastle man before dribbling past his marker and firing a low shot into the far corner of the net.
Having played a starring role in the game, it was a real shame to see the academy graduate limp off a few minutes later after falling victim to a heavy challenge from a Cincinnati defender, but by that stage, the game was all but over as a competitive contest.
Whilst we would recommend watching most if not all of the broadcast from last night, the goals in isolation can be seen at 19:00 (Jordon Mutch’s screamer) and 1:25:30 (Zaha’s superb skill and finish).
