With the 2016/17 season just around the corner, the Premier League have published a video of Crystal Palace’s top ten goals from over the years.
It’s often easy to forget the sublime nature of some of the goals Palace have bagged in the Premier League in recent seasons, but the above montage offers a timely and extremely welcome reminder of some of our best efforts.
Since the First Divison was rebranded as the Premier League, Palace have bagged 279 goals in total, but with Alan Pardew’s side now preparing for an unprecedented fourth consecutive season in its cash-obsessed confines, it’s little surprise to see a large number of the clips being lifted from recent memory.
Thanks to Marcus Bent, Gareth Southgate and everyone’s favourite Bald Eagle Atilio Lombardo, we aren’t without a few blasts from the past in the top 10, but if anything, the video highlights the giant strides we as a club have made since winning our last promotion at the end of the 2012/13 season.
Whilst a great number of trips down memory lane draw on a specific incident, it is always nice to see an organisation as large as the Premier League dig deep into their archives to produce a piece of nostalgia for supporters to pore over as they while away the days until the new league season gets underway in August.
With the likes of Andros Townsend and (hopefully) a new striker or two joining our ranks before the new campaign begins, fans will be hopeful of seeing a few goals that are worthy of making thier way into a revised top ten list over the next year or so, but for now, the above collection has more than enough belters in it to satisfy our collective itch for the return of first-team football.
