Thanks to some outrageous dance moves, Joe Ledley has become something of a poster boy for the Welsh national team in recent months and now, he’s used his newfound fame to dig out Cristiano Ronaldo.
Whilst Wales were upsetting the apple-cart over in France with each positive result they garnered, the superstar led Portugal squad have always been looked upon as underachievers on the international stage, not that Ledley’s view on their exploits as a team suggest that he holds that widely accepted view.
Perhaps it’s a case of sour grapes from the bearded central midfielder or maybe he’s got a tad carried away with the wave of euphoria he and his teammates have generated in recent weeks, but the comments attached above don’t exactly paint him and his fellow countrymen in the most humble of lights.
For all of his critics, Ronaldo has still been the lightening rod for a Portugal side who have made it to the final of the European Championshps, scoring vital goals and tirelessly working for each and every one of his breaks along the way. It may feel good for Joe to aim these digs at him in the press, but in reality, it will do the public’s perception of him little in the way of good.
Having flown off to Ibiza on a private jet to get married following Wales elimination from the tournament, we dare say Joe feels like a man on top of the world at present, which probably goes a long way to explaining the uncharacteristically bullish nature of the aforementioned quotes of the Real Madrid man’s game, but once the adrenalin has begun to wear off, there is a good chance that Ledley will regret being quite so forthright.
He has won back to back Ballon d’Or awards after all.
