Palace fans the world over were sent into something of an over excited meltdown last night, when L’Equipe broke the news of a dramatic triple bid for Michy Batshuayi, Steve Mandanda and Andros Townsend.
Whilst most transfer stories are taken with a gargantuan pinch of salt by supporters around the country, the piece in question is extremely direct in its statements, veering away from the usually ambiguous nature or transfer gossip to reveal cast-iron facts about Palace’s transfer activity over the last 24 hours.
After seeing US billionaires Josh Harris and David Blitzer bulldoze their way onto the Palace board in the middle of last season, we were left wondering exactly what impact their presence behind the scenes would have on the club’s transfer strategy, but with the publication of this proposed triple swoop, we have been given a definitive and hugely exciting answer.
We are all aware of which papers to trust and which to ignore on these shores, but to their credit, L’Equipe have long been seen as a relatively solid source of news when it comes to summer business between clubs on either side of the channel. For them to go to press with a position of such clarity over Palace’s potential dealings says a great deal, particularly when we’ve barely heard a peep from the media in the UK on the subject in recent weeks.
There is obviously a long way to go on all three of the transfers mentioned above, but for the time being, we as Palace fans have every right to feel overwhelmingly positive about what the next few weeks have in store for us. As the feature linked above states, (albeit in broken English) Steve Parish has decided to “move up a gear” in his spell as owner of Crystal Palace.
