As reported earlier this morning, Crystal Palace are believed to be edging ever closer to signing the French international goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, the details of which can be found here.
Whilst we’re sure there are thousands of you who don’t need us to explain how good a move we would be making by convincing the Marseille man to swap the south of France for South Norwood, those amongst you who are unaware of Mandanda’s considerable talents will almost certainly be won over by the video attached above.
At 31, the stopper is arguably entering his prime years and whilst we are sure to not be the only club interested in snapping him up without a transfer fee, the opinions of Yohan Cabaye and Pape Souare, both of whom seem to have taken to life at Selhurst Park like ducks to water, may end up holding some serious weight for us at the negotiating table.
Whilst all three of the goalkeepers on our books at present have areas of their game that supporters could rightly describe as weak points, Mandanda is to all intents and purposes a far more rounded prospect. It goes without saying that his possible arrival would signal the end for at least one of our current trio, but given his reputation within the European game, we’re sure that most of a red and blue persuasion would see it as a necessary evil.
You need only look at the reaction Marseille fans have had to the news that their beloved keeper might be jumping ship after reaching the end of his contract to realise that we would be getting a top quality option in between the sticks, with many of them taking to the internet over the last 12 hours or so to fume at the idea of him leaving them for plucky little Palace.
As always with these sorts of stories, it’s advisable not to get too carried away over the idea of a deal being done just yet, but as you will quickly realise when watching the video attached above, he would be a fantastic addition to Alan Pardew’s squad if we could somehow pull it off.
