Crystal Palace are believed to have made a firm contract offer to wantaway West Brom star Saido Berahino over the weekend in the hope of luring him to SE25.
The Baggies’ star has been openly unhappy at The Hawthorns for almost a year now, having spectacularly stated that he would never play for the club again after they blocked his potential move to Tottenham in August of 2015. Whilst his anger at chairman Jeremy Peace eventually cooled, the months since have looked to be nothing more than a marriage of necessity on the player’s part.
Despite genuine concerns in footballing circles over the conduct that the still young striker has shown when dealing with his current employers, there is no denying that he is a player who possesses an outrageous talent in front of goal when his head is in the right place, no doubt prompting the likes of Alan Pardew and Steve Parish to look on with excitement at the prospect of a deal being struck to secure his services.
From the West Brom perspective, there appears to be a feeling of fatigued resignation over the whole episode, given the continuously turbulent relationship they’ve endured with Saido over the last 18 months or so. Whilst they would never pretend that he’s anything other than a top class operator on his day; much like an exhausted parent catering to the every whim of a tantrum throwing toddler, they’re ready to give in to his demands for the sake of a quiet life.
Of course, with plenty of competition for Saido’s signature from elsewhere in the Premier League, the deal being presented to him will need to be an extremely attractive one, but from what the article attached at the top of the page suggests, we aren’t heading into the upcoming transfer window with a penny pinching approach by any stretch of the imagination.
When we first head Berahino’s name being linked with a move to Palace we assumed it would never happen, but having read into the proposed offer being waved in front of his face by Steve Parish and co. it’s looking more and more feasible with each passing day.
