Alan Pardew has seen his workload decrease dramatically since the end of the Premier League season, freeing him up to pen an opinion piece for the Daily Mail ahead of Euro 2016.
The Eagles’ gaffer has spoken on a number of subjects, including the selection headache facing Roy Hodgson at the head of the England side, his pick for the winner of the tournament and the players he will have his eye on as transfer targets for Crystal Palace in the coming weeks.
Pardew has never been afraid to share his views with anyone who will listen, making the platform of a column in a national newspaper an attractive prospect from the off, but as of yet, there doesn’t appear to be an official word on whether or not the Palace boss will make further appearances in the paper between now and the final in Paris.
As a character who divides opinion up and down the country, Pardew’s words are likely to be scrutinised heavily, particularly by supporters in the North East, who will seize upon his explanation over Pappis Cisse’s stint playing out of position under him at Newcastle with howls of derision.
It is within his musings over the possible winners of the tournament that Pardew drops in a hint as to who he’ll be keeping a close eye on in relation to a potential transfer between now and August, setting tongues wagging over the specific identity of the mystery pair.
Whilst no one would suggest that Pardew’s journalistic efforts will offer him a career change if things end up going sour on the management front, the above feature certainly offers an intriguing insight into the thought processes of the man with his hand on the tiller at Selhurst Park ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League season.
Perhaps we’ll hear more from him over the next month as England cruise towards a first major trophy win in 50 years, as he sings the praises of Roy Hodgson and his fearless band of young Lions. I’ve not been drinking this morning, I swear.
