Remember the documentary that was never released about the behind the scenes gongs on at the club in the 2012/13 season? Well now, 10 minutes of previously unseen footage has made its way online.
Supporters were distraught when first hearing that the fly-on-the-wall film wasn’t going to be released, mainly because of the excellent teasers that had been put online, showing a close-up perspective of the celebrations at The Amex during our 2-0 play-off semi-final win.
It was a night that is still talked about regularly by Palace fans everywhere, many of whom cite Zaha’s second goal of the evening as one of their favourite ever moments following the club and now, for the first time ever, we have been gifted the chance to soak up every second of it.
There really is no way to overstate the outpouring of joy that occurs when the goal in question is fired into the back of the net, with the cameraman, who was stationed just in front of the away end, capturing the emotional wave unfolding in front of him perfectly.
Following that, we are then treated to a totally new segment showing the emotional roller-coaster of a day that unfolded against Watford at Wembley, when, bathed in glorious sunshine, Kevin Phillips’ extra-time penalty sent us into the Premier League.
The footage once again manages to catch the fragile desperation of the general mood that day perfectly, particularly in the build-up to the now famous penalty kick from Phillips. The celebrations that followed, including a spine-tingling rendition of “We Love You” really are a must-see.
The 10-minute trip through Palace’s play-off ride ends with the jubilant scenes as play was brought to an end under the famous Wembley arch, with thousands upon thousands of faces struggling to take in the enormity of the moment amidst a sea of red and blue ecstasy.
It may be three years since in all happened, but this video will bring it all flooding back to you.
