It’s been an incredibly turbulent season in SE25 one way and another. After early season success, we’ve endured a post-Christmas collapse of epic proportions, but it’s certainly never been boring.
Thanks to the excellent Red Blue World, the above video acts as a comprehensive guide through the league campaign just gone, showing all 39 league goals scored by Alan Pardew’s Eagles over the course of just over 11 minutes.
It may feel like an age ago now, but the heady early days of the season which saw victories over Norwich, Aston Villa, Chelsea, West Brom and Watford set the tone for a run of form which, up until Christmas, showed no signs whatsoever of slowing down.
It’s easy to forget now, but there was also a massive 2-1 win over Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield and a last-gasp victory at Stoke’s Britannia Stadium courtesy of an absolute screamer from Lee Chung-Yong prior to the sound of Christmas carols made their way onto our doorsteps.
2016 may well have proved to be a more dour affair by comparison, but our fans would be advised not to forget the wonder-strikes from Connor Wickham at the Hawthorns or the Stadium Of Light respectively, nor the undeniably huge three points we secured at home to Norwich City following a Jason Puncheon curler which romped home in the Goal Of The Season voting.
There are understandable questions being raised over the plans the club have for next season, when taking into account our struggles in the Premier League over the last few months, but as the above video proves, we have had a multitude of moments this season to draw immense pride from; all of which have combined to ensure that we’ll be dining at English football’s top table for a fourth consecutive season by the time August rolls around.
Set aside a few minutes to watch all 39 of this season’s goals fly into the back of the net in quick succession, you won’t regret a second of it.
