After seeing speculation surrounding a possible Palace bid for Juventus striker Simone Zaza this summer, we looked into his record in front of goal, only to discover that he actually got on the scoresheet yesterday afternoon against Carpi.
As usual, Zaza was forced to make an impact for the Old Lady when coming off the substitutes’ bench, but he still managed to grab his eighth goal of the campaign in what was a fairly routine triumph over the relegation threatened visitors.
You would assume, that with the Scudetto having been mathematically secured already, Juventus would have given Zaza a starting role at home to such an unthreatening outfit, but in many ways, their unwillingness to trust him may end up playing into our hands by the time the next transfer window opens.
With only one start in Serie A since Christmas, it’s no surprise to hear that the frontman is keen on a change of scenery, and given his obvious prowess in front of goal, a club record move which sees him offered the faith he so desires, may work out perfectly for all parties in the summer.
At 24, Zaza should be getting to a point in his career where playing regularly trumps the thought of sitting on the bench, regardless of the venue. We may just be the perfect place for him to shine.
