Sullay Kaikai notched up his 11th goal in 22 games on loan at Shrewsbury yesterday afternoon, having given them the lead just before the half hour against Wigan Athletic.
The visiting Latics went into the fixture a single point behind League One leaders Burton Albion but were shocked by Kaikai, who bagged the opening goal of the game from close-range after some confusion at the heart of the Wigan defence; showing yet again that he has the instincts necessary to score goals regularly when given the chance.
The lead proved to be short-lived for the Shrews, who were dragged back onto level terms just five minutes later by Conor McAleny, prompting Gary Caldwell’s side to take over completely in the second half, scoring four unanswered goals in what ultimately proved to be a day to forget for Kaikai’s teammates.
On a personal note, Sullay be undoubtedly pleased though, with his recent fantastic form in front of goal making waves back in SE25. There is understandable clamour from supporters to see him brought into the first-team fold from the start of next season; a request which we’re sure Alan Pardew is feeling more and more comfortable about granting, given the regularity with which the youngster is finding the back of the net.
Let’s hope he can replicate his fantastic efforts for Shrewsbury this term in red and blue for years to come.
