Crystal Palace are expected to complete a deal for Margate striker Freddie Ladapo this week, after being impressed by the frontman during his trial with us.
Alan Pardew is understandably extremely keen to bolster his attacking options in any way possible and is believed to have been highly impressed by the non-league striker’s goal return during his time at Selhurst Park, prompting him into making a formal bid for Freddie’s services.
It was almost impossible to ignore the impact Ladapo made during his first trial match for the club, which saw him bag a hat-trick against Watford; but with Alan Pardew having been unable to attend, he was given another opportunity to shine in a home U21 clash against Leeds United a few days later.
Ladapo hasn’t always looked destined for the top, indeed, he struggled to make the impression he has for Margate when on the books of fellow non-league club Hayes & Yeading, but the previous 12 months or so have seen his stock rise immensely, provoking Palace into making a formal approach in the hope of discovering the next Jamie Vardy.
Should the deal go through in the coming days as expected, it will be interesting to see how close Ladapo is to being included at first-team level immediately, given the well documented lack of depth Alan Pardew currently has at his disposal in the final third.
