There are plenty of videos and pictures floating around in the aftermath of last night’s win over Reading, but the one attached below is arguably the best of the lot.
With the game edging towards stoppage time and the scores locked at 0-0, Yannick Bolasie was brought down by the arm of Reading defender Jake Cooper, prompting referee Mike Dean to point to the spot, much to the joy of the 3,900 Palace fans situated behind the goal.
Despite Mile Jedinak being on the field, Frenchman Yohan Cabaye took charge of the situation, grabbing the ball and waiting patiently whilst Cooper walked off the field.
The video above perfectly captures the bedlam that followed the spot kick hitting the back of the net, spilling out from our fans in the form of relief rather than sheer jubilation.
Thankfully, we would go on to add a bit of gloss to the scoreline through Fraizer Campbell in the third minute of added time, but it was Cabaye’s penalty that acted as a huge pressure reliever for the Palace fans who are understandably leaning on the FA Cup as a form of salvation from our wretched Premier League form.
I defy you to watch the clip attached above and not feel a beaming grin coming across your face. The FA Cup semi-finals are a great place to be.
