Alan Pardew is indulging in something of a love-in with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in the build-up to Palace’s clash with the Reds at Selhurst Park this afternoon.
Having come out on top when the two teams met at Anfield earlier in the season, Pardew finds himself and his players in a slightly different position this time round, having not won in 10 Premier League matches heading into today’s game. Despite that dismal run of form, the boss sounds in remarkably good spirits.
With Klopp having been in the Liverpool hotseat for a few months, we have all grown to understand the maniacal stylings of the German’s managerial techniques and evidently, his personality is something that Pardew has grown to admire from afar.
Known for his own fiery temperament on the touchline, Pardew admitted to seeing parallels between himself and the former Dortmund head coach on an emotional level, given their respective antics when watching games from the dugout.
Whilst there are plenty of mild mannered managers littered across the Premier League this season, you can’t help but be drawn to the personalities of Pardew and Klopp, both of whom are quick to spark into life at the drop of a hat when the game jolts to a crescendo. Some may view them as a tad OTT, but for many, their passion and will to win is a huge plus point.
Having seen Klopp suggest that the words “Crystal Palace” meant nothing to him prior to our previous meeting, you can be certain that he will be far more wary of us this time around, although, having never visited Selhurst Park before, he could be in for something of a surprise.
