If you’ve done any digging into the history of Crystal Palace FC, you’ll know that there is no love lost between Alan Mullery and our supporters; a fact proven on Sunday at White Hart Lane.
The former Palace and Brighton manager, who also happens to be something of a Tottenham legend, was booked to appear during the half-time interval, likely by a staff member at Spurs who knew nothing of the colourful past we have with the man in question.
Whilst many football fans across the country struggle to get their heads around the reason for the rivalry between Palace and Brighton, Mullery is well versed in the tale, having played a pivotal role in the ignition of tensions between the two clubs. It is a story which takes some explaining, so rather than attempting to give you a timeline myself, I have attached a video below which does the job perfectly for me.
As for the clip attached via the link at the top of this article, you can be sure that Mullery himself was well aware of the reception he would get when he was asked to make an appearance by those behind the scenes at Tottenham, even if they were perhaps a tad sceptical over the level of anger that was set to come from the away end on the day.
I shall warn you now that there is some rather choice language used in the video at the top of this article, so don’t open it if you have small children around you; but, being as well versed in our dislike for Alan Mullery as I’m sure you already are, it’s bound to get a laugh out of you when you do get around to watching it. He even gets a rendition of his own song from the traveling Palace fans. How lovely.
