Steve Parish’s Cryptic Tweet Hints At Possible New Striker Signing

The football landscape in 2016 differs hugely from even five years ago. Gone are the days when we used to check local papers and Teletext for news about any potential transfers; now, every club’s fanbase live and die with what occurs on the countless social media platforms, just as the below tweet from Steve Parish proves.

This tweet from Palace co-chairman Steve Parish has sent our supporters into rumour overdrive. Judging by the flight number mentioned and the countless excited responses he’s had, a transfer move could well be in the offing over the coming days.

After what was a hugely demoralising defeat at the hands of Aston Villa on Tuesday night, the Palace co-chairman took to Twitter yesterday evening to thank British Airways for their fantastic service in getting him onto a specific flight in good time. Usually, there would be nothing to raise an eyebrow at, but the flight number he attached showed a trip from Marseille back to Heathrow, fueling speculation over a possible transfer move being lined up for the coming days.

Unless you’ve had your head buried in the sand for the last few weeks, you’ll know that Michy Batshuayi has been regularly linked with a January move to SE25, given the club’s desperate need for attacking reinforcements. Whilst many had assumed he wouldn’t be leaving the French outfit for anyone other than a European giant, Steve’s cryptic tweet has sent Palace fans’ imaginations into overdrive once more.

We should never forget that Parish made his name in the world of PR, he knows exactly what he’s doing when it comes to the world of social media, meaning that the ripple effect created by his latest musing will have been well thought out in advance. In essence, his words here are akin to a parent calling their six-year-old child to tell them they will be home once they’ve finished what they’re doing in Toys R Us. The hysteria is a happy byproduct, particularly in the aftermath of such a miserable evening in the Midlands just 24 hours before.

It could well come to nothing, but for now, it’s got Palace fans feeling intrigued once more, which can only be a good thing. Judging by the mountains of replies his tweet received, he’ll be feeling pretty pleased with himself if we can pull off a deal.

Have a look for yourself.

Nice post, makes a pleasant change from standard speculative rumour. What do they feed the footballers in Belgium at the moment? It seems like every player they produce is top class!
