Crystal Palace have settled upon Fiorentina striker Khouma Babacar as their primary attacking target of the January transfer window after a few days of deliberation.
Having had a huge bid rejected for Juventus striker Simone Zaza within the last 48 hours, it seems as though the Eagles board have decided to set their sights elsewhere as a matter of urgency, with Babacar fitting the bill perfectly.
Still only young and scoring regularly so far this term, Pardew will certainly be hopeful of making significant progress towards finalising a deal within the coming days, as he looks to address the problems his side have faced in front of goal since August.
Details of the exact size of the bid that has been placed by Palace can be seen via the link attached above, which, in what has been an incredibly hectic few days, should provide some sense of clarity for those who wield the true power behind the scenes in SE25.
Whilst they will have had a shortlist of potential striking targets for a number of months, no amount of planning can fully prepare you for the breakneck speed at which things develop within every transfer window.
Babacar may not be the best known striker to have been linked with us since the new year began, but his record to date certainly appears to denote a level of genuine potential for improvement in years to come.
Ideally, the bid referenced in the second paragraph will be accepted by Fiorentina, opening up the possibility of agreeing personal terms with the man himself sooner rather than later. We’ll be sure to you up to date.
