Former Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has revealed that he has told Charlie Austin to sign for Crystal Palace ahead of every other club interested in him.
You can hear Neil Warnock telling TalkSPORT about the recommendation he’s made to Charlie Austin over a move to Crystal Palace here. You can cut straight to the discussion about the QPR frontman by skipping to the sixth minute of the clip.
Warnock, who managed Austin recently whilst in charge of The Hoops, was speaking to TalkSPORT this morning, when he admitted to pushing the former Swindon Town frontman in the direction of SE25, given the opportunities he would be afforded by Alan Pardew.
Austin’s prolonged exit from QPR could well come to an end this month, with Palace amongst a host of clubs thought to be interested in securing his signature, but if the papers are to be believed, the man himself is more than happy to see his contract expire in the summer before leaving Loftus Road on a free transfer, before pocketing a hefty signing-on bonus from whoever he joins.
Warnock’s reputation with Palace fans has certainly been a turbulent one over the years, with the former Sheffield United supremo having taken charge of the club in two separate spells with hugely mixed results, but this latest development is almost certain to please the vast majority of our fan-base, given the desperation we’re all feeling over the pursuit of a new striker during the January transfer window.
Let’s hope that Austin himself places a great deal of importance on the thoughts of his former gaffer. It may turn out to be the best think Neil has ever done for us.
