Alan Pardew has spoken openly about the ongoing discussions between himself and Crystal Palace regarding a contract extension, having enjoyed a stunning start to life in SE25.
Having left Newcastle United for the Eagles exactly one year ago, the 54-year-old has overseen a shift in mentality at Selhurst Park, both from his players and the supporters, with his next aim centring around the hope of winning a trophy or two for us.
Until now, Pardew has been careful to not elaborate on questions surrounding his long-term future, but during yesterday’s press conference, once the first section came to an end, he readily discussed the need for him to remain at a club that matched his ambition for the years ahead.
From our perspective, the potential of a role with the English national team will continue to be a huge concern, but domestically, it sounds as though Alan is more than happy to build from within, in the hope of scaling heights that Palace have never dreamt of before.
Whilst details of the contract extension itself are still yet to be revealed, the quotes attached above offer a solid insight into Pardew’s state of mind as he heads into negotiations with Palace’s co-owner Steve Parish.
Following what has been a stunningly successful first year for him in the Selhurst hot seat, you could be forgiven for hoping for a simple spell of stability in our league position, rather than the lofty plans the boss has for us. Should he make his dream a reality, there will be more than a few of our supporters willing to chip in to have a statue built of him outside the newly built Main Stand in years to come.
