Rumours of a bid from Crystal Palace for Juventus striker Simone Zaza are refusing to go away, with Italian news outlets now suggesting that a January move could be on the cards.
This piece, written by Marco Credentino for Gazzetta World, offers an insight into the mechanics of a deal which could see Zaza signing for Crystal Palace during the January transfer window. That’s an eye-watering transfer fee…
The striker has scored five goals in just 10 games for his current employers and is reportedly desperate to secure assurances over a more regular place in the Juve first-team between now and May, as he looks to win a place on the plane to Euro 2016.
Despite a hefty transfer fee and a decent goal return to date, Juve boss Allegri has so far appeared to be reluctant to place total faith in Zaza at the head of his side and with both West Ham and Crystal Palace understood to have registered an interest in him, it may be difficult for the Italian giants to convince the striker to stay and remain on the bench.
Although he’s never proven himself on these shores, his record in front of goal so far suggests that he’d be more than capable of carving out a successful niche in the Premier League, were he to be used correctly, and with the prospect of first-team football seemingly more important than ever at this moment in time, a switch to SE25 may just turn Zaza’s head.
Given the current Palace team’s startling lack of firepower, a January move for a striker is almost a certainty, and whilst there are plenty of other options available to Alan Pardew, Zaza’s reputation is bound to have catapulted him towards the top of our list of New Year targets.
Is he worth the money? Will we look elsewhere? Do you care, as long as we find someone who can put the ball in the back of the net on a semi-regular basis? These are all questions that will be answered in the coming weeks.
