Crystal Palace are firmly in the race for the Premier League title this season, according to BBC pundit Martin Keown (and as far we are aware, he wasn’t drunk at the time).
The former Arsenal full-back, had suggested that Alan Pardew and his players weren’t getting the praise they deserved when pressed for analysis of our game on Saturday’s edition of Match Of The Day. He then followed up his comments by claiming that Palace must be considered as title contenders alongside five others, when speaking in the aftermath of Arsenal’s win over Manchester City on Monday night.
Whilst Leicester City remain clear at the top of the table for the time being, the Gunners are hot on their heels, with City, Spurs, Manchester United and ourselves not too far out of touch with the leaders as we enter the extremely busy festive period.
With games against Bournemouth, Swansea City and Chelsea all to come by the 3rd of January, Alan Pardew and his squad should have a good feel for whether or not we can have a feasible run at securing European football in May by the midpoint of next month.
Should we come away from the next three ties with six points or more, both we as supporters and those across the wider footballing press will rightly begin to take our chances more seriously, with a certain Martin Keown likely to be leading the charge.
After securing the fourth biggest points total of any Premier League team to date in 2015, there’s no real reason to suggest that we can’t keep up this level of performance for the foreseeable future. Where that will lead us over the next five months is anyone’s guess.
