Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur is refusing to allow his mind to wander towards talk of a January move to North London giants Arsenal, after rumours of a move for him began circulating earlier this week.
The Scotsman has been in fantastic form all season long next to Yohan Cabaye in the centre of midfield, with many Palace fans suggesting that he is a relative shoe-in for the Player of the Year award so far. Indeed, his performances have seen the likes of Joe Ledley and Mile Jedinak left out of the starting XI completely for much of the current campaign.
Whilst any link with one of the country’s stereotypical top four will always come as a welcomed surprise for a player, you get the impression that Jimmy is well aware of the reasons behind his recent success in the game. Given a license to play his natural game, the former Wigan Athletic man hustles and bustles his way across the pitch with the boundless enthusiasm of a newborn puppy, cajoled and encouraged by his teammates, who have come to fully appreciate the role he occupies within the squad.
In truth, the summer will almost certainly provide a serious test for the club’s backroom team, should our recent fine form continue until May, given the inevitable clamour for fresh blood across the Premier League, but for now, it looks as though both McArthur and his manager are focussing entirely on the fortunes of the Eagles, rather than clouding their thoughts with worries over a potential bid from Arsene Wenger and co. in the coming weeks.
Who knows, we may even finish the season above the Gunners if we play our cards right.
