Manchester United’s dismal run of form under Louis Van Gaal has prompted plenty of Reds fans to question who could do a better job for them in the long-term, with one punter suggesting that Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew is the best man for the challenge.
Clearly incensed at his team’s recent displays under the Durchman, the United fan in question is adamant that Pardew is indeed the best qualified man for the job, given his long history of flourishing when being forced to swim against the tide of opinion from the masses.
Calling in to make his point to Robbie Savage as part of Five Live’s 606 show, his comment was met with derision from many, but as he rightly claims, United’s stock within the world game has tumbled dramatically since the departure of Alex Ferguson a few years ago; leaving their hopes of landing an A-list name like Pep Guardiola looking slimmer than ever before.
Of course, from a Palace fan’s point of view, the mere thought of Pardew jumping ship for Old Trafford in the near future is horrifying, but it’s interesting to see that, despite the incredible success he’s had with us since making the move from Newcastle, he’s still viewed by most as a manager lacking the credentials to succeed at a club like Manchester United.
Perhaps the caller in question is the one talking sense in this particular debate. Do you think Pardew would take to life in the North West like a duck to water?
