Arsenal Lining Up Multi-Million Pound Bid For Palace Midfielder

It’s only the 1st of December, but the transfer rumour mill is already beginning to churn, with Arsenal now considering a January bid for Crystal Palace midfielder, James McArthur.

Heee are the full dtails of Arsenal’s interest in McArthur. Even though some neutrals may be slow to realise it, Jimmy would be worth every penny to Wenger’s current crop of players.

After signing the Scotsman from Wigan Athletic for a fee believed to be close to £7 million at the start of last season, he has been nothing short of a revelation in the Eagles’ midfield. Initially flourishing under Neil Warnock, who brought him to the football club, he has since become an irreplaceable cog in Alan Pardew’s midfield.

Occupying a central role alongside everyone’s favourite Frenchman Yohan Cabaye this term, Jimmy’s boundless energy and remarkably calm demeanour whilst in possession has won him an ever-growing band of admirers at across South London, but Arsenal’s rumoured interest has come as something of a shock to even the most ardent of McArthur’s backers.

Far from a stereotypical Arsene Wenger signing, Jimmy would certainly offer the Gunners a degree of bite in the middle of the field, which, thanks to the recent injury sustained by Coquelin, is something that is currently in short supply at The Emirates.

The story (attached above in full) comes from well-known sports journalist and Sky Sports News man Graeme Bailey, who mentions Jimmy alongside a few of Europe’s top central midfielders as a potential target for the perennial top four finishers. It’s a move the man himself would no doubt be interested in, even though the majority of our fans will be biting their nails at the thought of him leaving.

To his credit, Bailey is one of very few footballing pundits who has a credible record in the sphere of transfer rumours, giving feasibility to this particular story as we begin the build-up to the January transfer bonanza.

It’s been quiet for a few months, but we can expect plenty more of this once the New Year arrives.

I hope I am not alone in thinking this, but hopefully the days are gone where teams such as Palace have to get shafted and forced into a star player sale by one of the top 4 or 5 clubs just because one of our players is having a good season, or they have injuries in their own squad?

In my opinion, a primary reason why clubs such as Arsenal stay as a top club is because of the heavy finance supported bully boy tactics which keeps the challenging teams just below them suppressed. Break the chain of this cycle and you could see a step change in the “ownership” of the premier league. In many ways this is already happening with the likes of Leicester, West Ham, Southampton and Palace all beating top teams and pushing for top 6 finishes, although to be fair, Southampton have done this despite having to sell a lot of their best players over the last season or so.

So Arsenal, with the best will in the world, go and do one!
