Chelsea Weighing Up Scott Dann Bid According To The Daily Mail

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas; there’s wind and rain outside our windows, John Lewis have taken over advert breaks and our best players are being linked with imminent moves away.

Mail sportswriter and Palace fan Neil Ashton has named Scott Dann as one of the players on Chelsea’s January shopping list. Let’s hope both the club and Scott himself don’t even entertain the idea of a move.

According to Neil Ashton in a piece for the Daily Mail, (attached above) Chelsea are looking into the possibility of making a move for the ever-reliable Scott Dann, as they make a sustained effort to boost the number of homegrown players within their ranks.

Alongside potential bids for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, Birmingham’s Demerai Gray and West Brom’s Saido Berahino, it looks as though Scott may genuinely be a target for Mourinho and co. in the January sales.

You would assume that Palace’s chances of keeping the 28-year-old remain relatively strong, given the fact that he only signed a five-year contract extension with us this summer. Add the Blues’ woeful start to the current campaign alongside the potential influx of significant further funding from US billionaires Harris and Blitzer and the case for Dann to stay put looks to be a pretty strong one.

With John Terry’s age becoming more and more of a problem with each passing month and Gary Cahill’s questionable performances in a Chelsea shirt piling pressure onto his shoulders, there is a strong possibility that they will be left with no Englishman in the side before long unless they take action quickly.

Long gone are the days when a squad made up of Lampard, Bridge, Cole (x2) and the aforementioned Terry were bulldozing their way to titles, leading reasonable questions to be asked over whether the current set of players have the same desire to succeed.

Let’s hope, for our own sake and Scott’s, that an Abramovic financed mega-bid doesn’t come our way for the Scouser in the New Year, it simply wouldn’t feel right for him to leave us now.

It’s amazing isn’t it – if it’s true. First Chelsea poach a young centre half just as we were about to sign him, probably to be consigned to playing on-loan football for the rest of his career and now they want our best centre half. I can think of two words to tell them what to do – last one’s OFF.
