Crystal Palace loanee Jake Gray scored his first and second ever professional goals in Hartlepool’s 3-1 win over Leyton Orient this afternoon.
After falling behind early on, the hosts got themselves back on level terms after former Millwall man Alan Dunne inexplicably stuck out an arm in the penalty area, giving away a spot kick that allowed Hartlepool to get a foothold in the match.
Gray scored his first goal of the game on 71 minutes, hitting a low shot from the edge of the penalty area that was deflected past the keeper and into the back of the net.
His second effort was without doubt the best goal of the game, with academy man Gray running beyond the Orient defence, latching onto a through ball and slotting a beautifully directed shot into the bottom left-hand corner with the nonchalance of a seasoned professional.
Watched by Mark Bright from the stands, Alan Pardew is bound to get a glowing report of the midfielder’s performance, if indeed he didn’t watch the game himself.
