Joe Ledley, Wayne Hennessey and Jonny Williams were all given starting roles in last night’s 3-2 defeat for Wales to the Netherlands in Cardiff.
To see Joe Ledley’s goal for Wales last night, you can click here. It may not have secured his country a positive result for his country, but after a five-year drought for the bearded midfielder, it will obviously have been a big moment for him.
Whilst the end result was far from satisfactory for Chris Coleman and his players, it was a good night for Joe, who grabbed his first Welsh goal in five years when following up on a saved penalty in the 45th minute of the game to level the scores.
In what was a lively game from start to finish, the Dutch were to take the lead once again through Arjen Robben in the 54th minute, before Emyr Hughes’ header levelled the scores on 70 minutes. Unfortunately, just 11 minutes later, the visitors were in front for a third time, with Bayern winger Robben doubling his tally after a cool finish when played in on goal.
The Premier League isn’t set to get going again until next weekend, but it’s good to see the Palace trio all getting minutes for their country as the Welsh gear up for Euro 2016. You would hope and expect that all three players will be on the plane to France next summer, where, if they are to be drawn against the Netherlands in the group stages, they’ll be hoping for a better result than last night.
