You can now watch highlights of Australia’s 3-0 win over Kyrgyzstan, within which Palace captain Mile Jedinak slotted away a penalty to open the scoring for the Socceroos.
Full highlights of Australia’s comprehensive victory over Kyrgyzstan can be seen here, including footage of Jedinak’s 40th minute penalty, which gave the hosts the lead in a must-win game. Mile simply does not miss from the spot.
For Jedinak and his teammates, their hopes of progressing to the 2018 World Cup will rest upon a long and successful qualification campaign, with the team set to face a mentally and physically daunting trip to Bangladesh this Tuesday as they aim to overhaul Jordan at the top of their group.
Despite the obvious gulf in quality between the two sides, it took the Aussies 40 minutes to break the deadlock, thanks to a casually dispatched spot-kick from the Eagles midfielder.
Further goals arrived for the hosts via the ever reliable Tim Cahill, who has now notched 42 times in gold and green, before a cherry was added to the top of the cake thanks to the head of a Kyrgyzstan defender, who diverted a Mooy corner into his own goal, sending the home fans away happy after traffic disruption had wreaked havoc with their arrival in the stadium in the early stages of the tie.
Indeed, the Australian’s could have added a fourth late on through Cahill once more, but a decent close-range save from the visitor’s keeper put an end to the scoring. It was a much-needed result for Ange Postecoglou and his players, who retain a belief that they can make a real impact on the world stage if they are able to battle their way through a prolonged qualification stage in the next few months.
The video attached above shows all of the key incidents from the fixture, including Mile’s beautifully taken penalty, which we’re sure you’ll enjoy watching.
