It may still be over two months until the transfer window opens, but The Sun are this morning claiming this that Yannick Bolasie’s move to Tottenham could be back on.
The news comes alongside the suggestion that current Spurs winger Andros Townsend is ready to quit White Hart Lane, having grown thoroughly frustrated by the lack of first-team opportunities afforded to him by Mauricio Pochettino in recent months.
Following a suggestion that Aston Villa were interested in the 24-year-old over the summer, Daniel Levy and co. turned down the chance to let Townsend fly the nest, but their stance appears to have shifted over the last week or so, prompting both Newcastle and Swansea to express an interest in taking him on loan in in the new year.
Townsend’s potential departure will seemingly pave the way for Spurs to step up their efforts to pursue Palace wide man Bolasie, who was almost continuously linked with a switch to North London over the summer. After the Eagles hierarchy slapped a £15 million price tag on his shoulders, there were some well held reservations from their side of the negotiating table, but if The Sun is to be believed, (a ridiculous thought, I know) they are now ready to pull the trigger on a deal.
Palace fans are likely to be far more open to an offer of £15 million now than they were over the summer, given Yannick’s patchy start to the 2015/16 campaign. Unquestionably talented though he is, Bolasie’s regular lack of an end product has led many supporters to question his true worth to the side.
We can almost certainly expect stories surrounding Yannick and Tottenham to gather pace in the next few weeks, such is the media’s strange desperation to link the two together at every available opportunity.
It wouldn’t be the transfer window without a sense of intrigue over the DR Congo international’s future, let’s be honest.
