Crystal Palace’s latest signing Jason Lokilo has explained why he chose to move to South London instead of Arsenal after receiving international clearance yesterday.
Having previously been at Anderlecht, the 17-year-old is keen to immerse himself within English culture and work his way through the ranks in SE25.
Happiest on the right wing, Lokilio admits that he’s content as long as he’s scoring goals and creating chances for his teammates from game to game, which, should he perform well, will certainly endear him to the Palace faithful in the months and years to come.
Showing an impressive grasp of the English language for someone so young, Jason has surprisingly never taken any lessons in the subject, claiming instead to have taught himself through watching interviews with Cristiano Ronaldo, his footballing idol.
Whilst it’s impossible to ever be sure of a youngsters chances of success before a ball has been kicked, the pedigree Lokilo has, looked at alongside the interest that was shown in him from Arsene Wenger and his fellow Arsenal coaches, should mean that he has a decent chance of one day making an impact within the first-team set up at Selhurst Park.
Thankfully, with stories such as this, there is a sense of boundless potential, allowing both the player and our supporters to daydream over the prospect of him one day becoming the next global footballing superstar, but for now, we should simply bask in the glow of luring a player of Lokilo’s calibre away from the grasp of Arsenal.
Take a minute or two to watch the video above, you’re bound to be impressed with the poise that Jason shows in front of the camera.
