Nominations are now open for Crystal Palace’s Player of the Month award for September, with everyone who casts a vote on the link attached below being entered into a draw to win a first-team shirt of their choice.
As you would expect, Brede Hangeland is one of the four players in the running for the accolade, after a string of impressive displays at the heart of the Eagles defence in the absence of both Scott Dann and Damien Delaney at different points of the month.
Alongside the Norwegian, Palace left-back and new fan-favourite Pape Souare has also been selected, after making the usually troublesome position his own in recent weeks. Now well-known for his boundless energy and comfort in possession, the international defender has brought a level of calm to the back four in the opening two months of the campaign, linking up well with the likes of Zaha, Bolasie and Sako ahead of him whenever called upon.
Grafting central midfielder James McArthur is the third nominee, thanks to his consistently solid performances at the heart of Alan Pardew’s side. Left out of the starting XI for our recent victories over Charlton Athletic and Watford, Jimmy was brought into the game against the Hornets in a bid to shore up the midfield for the final few pivotal minutes of the clash. A potential nominee for the award each and every month, you’ll struggle to find a Palace fan with a bad word to say about the Scotsman.
Last but certainly not least is Palace striker Dwight Gayle. The former Peterborough man had looked to be on his way out of Selhurst Park in the final few days of this summer’s transfer window, but Glenn Murray’s departure and Pardew’s desperation to keep Gayle in south London saw the 24-year-old staying on in SE25. Since then, an impressive hat-trick in the League Cup battering of the Addicks and a tireless starting display last Sunday at Vicarage Road have moved Dwight firmly into his manager’s good books.
