After writing off our chances against Chelsea completely last weekend, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is now tipping Palace for a European place.

The former Arsenal man has compiled his predicted Premier League table from one to twenty, based on the opening four fixtures of the campaign and has placed the Eagles above the likes of Liverpool and Spurs in fifth place.
Clearly impressed with the form we’ve shown in the opening few weeks, as well as results we garnered in the final few games of the previous campaign, Merson suggests that whilst Palace may not have the same reputation as Spurs and Brendan Rodgers’ Reds, there are plenty of players at Selhurst Park who would walk into their respective starting XIs.
In compiling the list, he said of Palace:
I like Crystal Palace (5) and if they stay fit as a team, they won’t be a million miles off. They’re not in Europe and they’ve got very good players. People are going to say they won’t be up there because they’re not Tottenham or Liverpool, but half of their players would get into Tottenham or Liverpool’s team.
Whilst there aren’t a great deal of surprises in the rest of Merson’s drafted table, we can take comfort from the fact that our weekly performances are forcing people to sit up and take notice. Where before people have assumed that our victories have been the product of good fortune as much as hard graft, recent weeks have gone even further towards dispelling that myth.
Should we do the unthinkable and halt the seemingly unstoppable freight train that is Manchester City next weekend, you can expect the media interest in us to hit an all new level, given the fact that a victory would draw us level with them at the top of the Premier League table on 12 points.
We can but dream.
