The Wales international has long been a fans’ favourite at Selhurst Park but has been his progress stunted by countless injuries throughout a still young career. Now, after spending time with Ipswich Town over the last year or so, it seems there are plenty of other clubs ready to offer him the chance to shine.
Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Derby are all believed to have expressed an interest in taking the 21-year-old on a short-term basis, as he looks to prove once and for all that his fitness troubles are a thing of the past.
At Wolves, Jonny would undoubtedly benefit from the guidance of Kenny Jackett, who has shown himself to be a fantastic man motivator wherever he has been, whilst at Forest, Williams would undoubtedly relish the opportunity to link up with Dougie Freeedman once again.
Although Derby are likely to be his third choice on the face of things, their boss Paul Clement is a well-respected coach with a point to prove, meaning that Jonny will likely be in safe hands wherever he ends up.
Let’s hope that the next few months bring him regular first-team football without a single niggling injury to fret over.
Call me crazy, but if he can stay match fit for a year or more, there is nothing stopping the diminutive midfielder from breaking into our Premier League side. He’s got the necessary talent, now he just needs some luck to go with it.
