Following on from the club’s decision to completely re-lay the Selhurst Park pitch, Alan Pardew has confirmed that the players will train on it ahead of this weeeknd’s game against Arsenal.
Keen to get a real feel of their new home turf, the squad are likely to head over to SE25 on Friday at the latest to reacquaint themselves with their surroundings, in the hope of gaining a pivotal edge over the Gunners in a game which, if we win it, will keep us at the top of the Premier League table.
Last season saw the Selhurst surface come in for heavy criticism from our own players and the opposition, prompting the club to spend a sizeable chunk of cash to improve it over the summer. Now, we are the proud owners of a Desso GrassMaster (don’t laugh), which weaves the fibres of the pitch together to reduce the chance of the issues we faced last term from reoccurring.
For a team who rely heavily on rapid counter-attacks, it had been incredibly frustrating to return home and struggle to play our natural game but now, with an all-new surface in place, Alan Pardew and his players can rest easy about the prospect of playing their home games at Selhurst Park once again.
We’ve always had the best home atmosphere in the Premier League, now we can claim to have a pitch that comes up to the same standards.
