Jonny Williams Looks Certain To Head Out On Loan Again In A Bid To Prove His Fitness Once And For All

It looks as though Jonny Williams will be headng out on loan again within the next few weeks, after both Fulham and Wolves expressed an interest.

The Welsh international is now over the age of 21, meaning that he is no longer eligible for an automatic place in Palace’s Premier League squad and must instead win a place as part of the 25 man group.

With the signings of Bakary Sako and Yohan Cabaye adding to what was already a highly congested midfield, it looks as though Jonny may simply not a place in Alan Pardew’s short-term plans, meaning that a loan move to the Championship is  seen as the next best alternative.

Indeed, Williams has spent a great deal of time on loan at Ipswich in recent seasons, flourishing under the guidance of Mick McCarthy, but as has so often been the case in the midfielder’s career to date, a succession of niggling injuries have prevented him from ever making the sort of progress needed to convince Pardew of his readiness for the rigours of the top flight.

It would be easy to forget just how talented a player Williams is, given his lack of game time in a red and blue shirt in recent years, but those who were wowed by him when he first broke into our Championship side will hold out genuine hope that a prolonged spell of first-team football at either one of the aforementioned Championship clubs will lead to him getting a chance to sign on the big stage.

Should he be able to remain injury free, there really is nothing stopping him from becoming a star.

i think we’ve reached a point now where we can afford to give some of our younger players a chance, at least occasionally. its true that the midfield is getting congested but i really think williams should be given a bit more thought, i wouldnt say at this point that someone like Ki Sung-yueng is much more proven than jonny. if he ends up going permanently i will be gutted, real potential in him but so far the only manager since ollie that seemed to give him much thought was warnock. admittedly i cant say im an expert on player fitness and i know that jonny has had his problems with injuries in the past, but chris coleman raves about him and i think he could learn more surrounded by players with top level experience playing week in week out in the prem, not in a could-go-up-could-go-down championship club

Much like Gayle, a huge part of it is opportunities to play.
