Palace Won’t Be Getting Spurs’ Troubled Striker… Bullet Dodged

Emmanuel Adebayor appears to have turned down Crystal Palace in favour of a move to Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa in a deal that is sure to have many Eagles fans breathing a heavy sigh of relief.

The Togo international is seemingly desperate to link up with Sherwood once again and traveled to Birmingham yesterday for a tour of their training facilities, despite The Mirror reporting that Palace did make a late play for his services.

After agreeing to make the switch to Villa, Adebayor is expected to receive close to if not all of his £100,000 a week wage demands, which, even if he does recapture the form he enjoyed under the former Spurs boss, is an exorbitant sum for a player of his age and temperament.

After the sale of Christian Benteke to Liverpool, Sherwood has moved quickly to bring in Jordan Ayew and now Adebayor, but for Palace, there remain a wealth of other attacking targets who would far more sense, both financially and tactically.

Given our transfer record under the ownership of CPFC2010, it seems ridiculous to think that a move for Adebayor was ever seriously discussed, but with the new Premier League season now just 10 days away, we may have strayed slightly from our usual methodology in the transfer market in our apparent pursuit of him.

You can be almost certain that Palace wouldn’t have offered to pay anywhere close to the six-figure weekly wage packet that Villa reportedly have, with Yohan Cabaye’s £80,000 a week deal proving to be more than high enough for us in the current climate.

Whilst it’s impossible to predict the future, you can’t help feeling that we’ve dodged a bullet in being ruled out in the race to take the striker off Tottenham’s hands; with Tim Sherwood welcome to try and cajole lightning into striking twice.

Seriously, has anyone got Charlie Austin’s mobile number?

How can a proffessional footballer be so unhappy at every club he goes to? He gets 100k a week to play football in the Prem and often 100k a week to sit on his arse. He has my dream job and yet is constantly reported as being hard work!
