After yesterday’s piece in which Alan Pardew confirmed that he would be on the lookout for potential new signings whilst away on our pre-season tour of South Africa, HITC are now claiming that Palace are interested in Sporting CP star Slimani.
The Algerian international played a starring role for the Portugese side last season, with a cup win to show for his efforts at the end of the campaign, but now, the article suggests that £10 million will be enough for Palace to land the frontman.
Indeed, they had shown interest in him last summer, but were unable to get into any advanced discussions with the player, much like Spurs, who also tried and failed to land him last season.
Now, it sounds like both ourselves and Tottenham are renewing our efforts to bring him to the UK, along with Newcastle, Leicester and West Brom, with the striker having followed up his excellent performance at the 2014 World Cup with a solid season in Portugal.
Luckily for Pardew, he’ll be given a close-up look at Slimani over the course of two games at the Cape Town Cup, where preliminary conversations may take place between the two clubs if the Palace boss is indeed sold of making the striker a part of his squad before the new season begins.
Whilst both Loic Remy and Charlie Austin are already proven goslscorers in the notoriously tricky English game, Slimani’s experience and pedigree has understandably led plenty of managers into enquiring over the potential to bring him in; regardless of his lack of game time on these shores.
Would you be happy to see us splash out on the Algerian?
