Welcome to the start of another week, within which, we will hopefully hear some all-important good news regarding the immediate future of transfer target Yohan Cabaye.
With Steve Parish having directly confirmed the club’s interest when speaking to Neil Ashton on TalkSPORT midway through Saturday evening, Palace fans have been desperate for some level of confirmation ever since, but as is so often the way with big transfer deals, it’s taking a little time.
Although the players will officially return for the start of pre-season training this morning, they won’t be heading to our Beckenham base, opting instead to spend the first week back at England’s St George’s Park training base in Burton whilst essential building work is completed closer to home.
It may frustrate you, but there is a chance that we might be forced to wait until the squad return to south London before an official announcement is made regarding the French international, not forgetting that at the time of writing, the club’s new official sponsor is still to be announced.
To most of us, that may sound unimportant, but you can be sure that any company who are set to have a lasting partnership with Crystal Palace going forward, will be desperate to have their brand held up by a new record signing for the world to see.
You would think that, given the lack of serious interest in Cabaye from our direct competitors, talks are progressing at a decent pace, but until we hear official word, every whisper from an “insider” is bound to get people feeling a little hot under the collar.
Hopefully it will only be a day or so more until an announcement is made, but in this heat, we can all be forgiven for getting a tad impatient at what seems like an endless wait for news.
